The Obon Festival is an annual Buddhist observance held to honor one’s ancestors. During Obon we share our gratitude and show our appreciation to our  ancestors for their dedication in guiding our lives in harmony and peace. We dance in their honor and “let go” of our egos It is a time to be our true self, which is foolish and imperfect.

Please join us for this family fun day in Santa Maria, CA. This festival is open to everyone of all ages and will feature Bonsai and martial arts demonstrations, taiko drumming, with the highlight being the Obon dancing where all are welcome to participate. Traditional Japanese food, as well as some local favorites, will be available for your enjoyment such as udon, sushi, teriyaki chicken dinner, kushiyaki, wontons, and strawberry shortcake. We even have a fun interactive arts and crafts area for the kids, everything from Origami to face painting, along with handmade items for purchase.  So come out to learn more the Japanese culture in the Santa Maria Valley. We look forward to seeing you there! To see more, click on any of the photos below.
