The Guadalupe Buddhist Church Annual Obon Festival
Highlights from the 2022 Obon Festival
Obon Festival Highlights – Photos, online articles and news coverage
The Guadalupe Buddhist Church is happy to announce the return of the annual Obon Festival! Obon Festivals are held around the world in honor of ancestors who have shared their compassion and wisdom with us, therefore contributing much to our lives. There will be some modifications this year in light of Covid-19 pandemic concerns, most notably that the demonstrations and Bon Odori dancing will be outside! Up until the last two years, the festival had been held annually without fail, since the Japanese-American community returned to this area after World War II, and is a favorite local event.
If you would like to learn the Obon dances beforehand, we invite you to participate in our Obon Dance practices, held for 4 Wednesdays prior to the Obon at the Veteran’s Memorial Building!
Practices dates for 2023 will be announced. 6:30pm-8:00pm, at 313 West Tunnell Street
This is a fun, family friendly event, we hope to see you all there!
